MUSINGS OF AN “OLDER” MAN. Nr.94

Standard

Nr.93 ended with: “I said to her very quietly, “When you don’t read God’s word to listen to Him, He will not listen to you, in fact your prayers offend Him.” I saw her face turn white as the Holy Spirit pricked her heart…………..!”

Two weeks later after some Bible studies and serious talks, she accepted the Lord Jesus into her heart and became a true born again Christian! Yes, the word of God is powerful! Jeremiah 23:29 says, “Is not My word like a fire, says the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces.” I have seen hardened hearts broken before the Lord and coming to Jesus. I have seen God’s word burning up arguments and hearts humbled and bowed before Him. In Ephesians 6:17 it says that the word of God is like a sword and it cuts into hearts, as it did on the day of Pentecost when Peter preached in the power of the Holy Spirit that God had raised up the Jesus whom they had crucified. People were “cut to the heart” and came to repentance and faith. I saw this happen with this woman, how wonderful to experience the power of God’s word. And I have witnessed this happen again and again.

Many a time when talking to some, I have asked them whether they were Christians. When they answered with “yes”, I then asked them whether they read the Bible. Almost always the answer would be “no.” I would then show them John 8:47 where Jesus says, “He that is of God hears (reads) God’s word. Therefore you do not hear (read), because you are not of God.” Many a time I have seen the Holy Spirit “cutting these folk to the heart.”

But now back to Beerse. As a number people started becoming Christians, it became evident that a church should be started here. One evening when we were together with a good group of young believers, we talked about this and the need for a building to meet in. We had a time of prayer and then someone mentioned that the old Windmill, close to the centre of the town, was for rent. An old dilapidated Windmill as church building……? (Go to Musings).
