MUSINGS OF AN “OLDER” MAN”. Nr.170.

Let’s go back to Nr.167, which ended with,” In 1987 we returned to Canada, this time for quite an extended, and also a difficult and trying period, when our faith was severely tested, but more about that next time………! (See richardandmarina.net).

I wrote about the health problems of our oldest daughter Rosa. Because of her we lived in Canada for the next three years, but I was gone a lot of the time. Allow me to say just a little more about Rosa’s illness. At that time it was not really accepted as an illness, but said to be something psychological. That has all changed and I recently read an article with the title, “It’s time for doctors to apologize to their M.E. patients. For too long the medical community has dismissed ‘Chronic Fatigue Syndrome’ or M.E. as a mental illness which can be cured with therapy and exercise.” (See nr.168.)

M.E. is Myalgic Encephalopathy or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, see: http://www.thegracecharityforme.org/what.asp. A major report from the prestigious US Institute of Medicine has concluded that M.E. is a “serious, chronic, complex, systemic disease that can profoundly affect the lives of patients. M.E. is not a psychological problem.” It is estimated that CFS/ME affects about 1 in 300 people in the UK, possibly more. So we need to realize that there may indeed be people around us coping with this, and one of their biggest problems is, not being understood. Dear friends, there are a lot of hurting people with all kinds of problems all around us and they need our love and sympathy. Jesus came to heal, we are here in His place.

During the first while that we were back in Canada in ’87, our first concern was looking for help for Rosa. After the summer our other two daughters, Lily and Renee went back to Belgium to continue their studies and work, living in our house, and as Lily had her driver’s license, using our car to get around. At the beginning of January ’88 I went back to Belgium for about six weeks, preaching, meeting with workers and church leaders and speaking at a conference in another European country. The Lord blessed and provided, we were always amazed at His provisions, He knew what we needed and put it upon the hearts of His people to support us. Gifts came in from people we had never met, really amazing! Yes God is real indeed, we can certainly testify to that, He can be trusted. My trip to Belgium was to be repeated and that summer Marina and I, and Rosa, who was still well enough at that time, would travel to Europe for something very special………………..! (Go to Musings).

 

OVERPEINZINGEN VAN EEN “OUDERE” MAN. Nr.170.

Laten we terug gaan naar Nr.167, dat eindigde met: “In 1987 keerden we terug naar Canada, deze keer voor een langere, en ook moeilijker periode, en werd ons geloof werkelijk op de proef gesteld, maar meer daarover de volgende maal………..!: (Zie richardandmarina.net).

Ik schreef toen over de gezondheidsproblemen van onze oudste dochter Rosa. Omwille van haar zijn wij drie jaar in Canada blijven wonen, alhoewel ik veel op reis was. Sta me toe iets meer te zeggen over haar ziekte, die toen nog niet gezien werd als ziekte, maar verklaard werd iets psychologisch te zijn. Dat is nu allemaal veranderd en ik las onlangs een artikel met als opschrift, “Het word tijd voor dokters om zich te verontschuldigen tegenover hun M.E. patienten. Te lang heeft de medische wereld het Chronisch Vermoeidheid Syndroom, of M.E. verworpen als een mentale ziekte die genezen kan worden door therapie en lichamelijke oefeningen. (Zie nr.168).

M.E. is Myalgic Encephalopathy of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, zie: http://www.thegracecharityforme.org/what.asp. Een belangrijk rapport van het prestigieuse Amerikaans Medisch Instituut concludeerde dat M.E. een “ernstige, chronische, complexe, systemische ziekte is dat de levens van patienten danig kan aantasten. M.E. is geen psychologisch probleem.” Geschat wordt dat 1 op de 300 mensen, mogelijk zelfs meer, in Groot Brittanië een vorm van CVS/M.E. hebben. Dus dienen wij te realizeren dat er mogelijk mensen in onze omgeving zijn die hier mee te kampen hebben, terwijl één van hun grootste zorgen is, dat ze niet begrepen worden. Beste vrienden, er zijn veel gekwetste mensen om ons heen, met allerlei problemen en zij hebben onze liefde en sympathie nodig.  Jezus kwam om te genezen, wij zijn hier in Zijn plaats!

Gedurende de eerste tijd dat wij terug in Canada waren in ’87, was onze eerste zorg hulp te zoeken voor Rosa. Na de zomer zijn onze twee dochters, Lily en Rini teruggegaan naar België  voor hun studies en werk en woonden ze in ons huis, en konden ze onze auto gebruiken, daar Lily haar rijbewijs had. Vanaf begin januari ’88 ben ik voor ongeveer 6 weken in België geweest om te prediken, samen te komen met de werkers en gemeenteleiders en heb ik gesproken op een conferentie in het buitenland. De Heer zegende en voorzag in al onze noden, waarover wij altijd weer verbaasd waren. Hij kende onze noden en legde het op de harten van Zijn kinderen om ons te steunen. Giften kwamen binnen van mensen die wij zelfs niet kenden, heel wonderlijk! Ja, God is echt, daar kunnen wij waarlijk van getuigen, Hij kan vertrouwd worden. Mijn verblijf in België zou herhaald worden en die zomer reisden Marina, Rosa, die toen nog sterk genoeg was, en ik naar Europa voor iets heel belangrijks………….! (Ga naar Overpeinzingen).
